In order to create opportunities to “disciples who will disciple others”, we use a pattern that has seen a lot of success @ Seaside. Over this past year, a small group of women met together each week, and during that time a different woman shared their story to the rest of the group. After those initial weeks of meeting, they broke off into smaller groups. This, in turn, led to a development of a broader structure of reproduction of these groups, which is happening as you read this (with 32 women currently involved in this next cycle). It has been exciting to see God work and stretch all those involved in this unique work, and we are now pushing this out to the broader community as well. Why the story format? When we hear a person’s story we start to understand who they are, what experiences have shaped them, what has made them who they are “on the inside”, and in the end, we get to see how God is redeeming each one of us. We have started a discipleship relationship with each other, as most of us are meeting together weekly or monthly, but to truly understand and be able to walk forward within the broader context of our community we must back up and start again, in a manner of speaking, with each other’s story. The purpose of this is to understand exactly the who/what/when/where and why of the people we are not only walking with, but also to build a culture where we are incredibly interested in and desire to know others (both inside and outside Seaside) as a means of encouragement and living life together being community within and outside the walls of Seaside. This will be done via two primary stages: Stage I We will start with small groups of people who will meet with qualified leads, and spend the next 5-10 weeks taking turns telling our stories, at a rate of 1 per week. There will be, as a part of this work, a time to ask questions and then pray for each other as well. After the “x” (x=the number of people in each group) weeks of stories (consecutive weeks or every other week), we will switch gears, meeting as a group once a month to go over 3 specific things: The Sin Control Cycle, Behind the Mask, and Truefaced. These will provide a solid foundation for our application biblically of walking with each other as we move forward into the next stage. Stage II After going through the story part/the materials and discussing them as a group, we would then work to help you to start your own group (most likely the people in your Community or drawn from those you are involved with in the broader community, repeating the same process).
